Dear Friend,

Thank you again for your support over the last few years.  I wish you all the best in 2011 and hope our work together will continue.  I am pleased to share with you an update on some of the exciting work I will be taking on in the coming year.  

In early January, I was named the National Finance Chair of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) for the 2011-2012 election cycle.  Over the last three cycles, I have worked tirelessly to advance our party’s agenda, elect and mentor new members of Congress, and raise the funds our party needs to be successful. I look forward to being at the forefront of the Democratic Party’s efforts to secure a majority in the U.S. House of Representatives. With support from friends like you, I know I can help our party rebuild and show the American people that the Democrats are the party working for them and toward a better future for our country.

I will also continue to play a variety of critical roles in the U.S. House of Representatives.  Leader Pelosi and Minority Whip Hoyer have asked me to serve as one of ten Chief Deputy Whips in the Democratic leadership of the House – a critical position from which I will help unify our caucus and keep work focused on revitalizing the economy. I am also so pleased to have been reappointed to the Committee on Ways and Means.  From my seat on the Committee, I will be at the forefront of efforts to protect Social Security, expand opportunities for American workers and businesses, and reduce taxes for hard-working families. Additionally, I was selected to co-chair the Congressional Caucus on India and Indian-Americans. India is a crucial U.S. ally and an emerging economic power.  Through my chairmanship of the India Caucus, I will play a key role in further building our nations’ relationship as well as serve as a voice in Congress for the tens of thousands of Indian-Americans in the United States. 

Finally, I am happy to report that I was re-elected Chair of the New Democrat Coalition, the largest moderate, pro-growth group of Democrats in Congress that plays a key role in shaping national economic policies.  Under my leadership, the Coalition will keep up its efforts to enact policies that will keep the U.S. economy strong and growing, preserve our standing as the world's leader in innovation and technological advancement, and strengthen our national security.
